There are some options that will make it easier for you, if you want to keep out-of-season clothes out of the way.

There are many different options for how you can do this. If you have closets in spare or guest rooms that are empty, you can hang your clothes there.

You can buy storage closets for basements or even fold clothes in plastic totes. Make sure if you are storing in areas that could get wet or musty, that you keep clothing in plastic to keep it looking new.

No More Messy Coat Closet http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/no-more-messy-coat-closet/ http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/no-more-messy-coat-closet/#comments Thu, 11 Sep 2014 04:29:16 +0000 http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/?p=2918 The coat closet becomes the catch-all
closet for too many people.

There are always additional things that you seem to not be able to find a place for, and then those things end up there. When it gets out of hand, getting it organized can be quite the chore and end up causing you hours of headaches.

One good consideration is to make sure to clean it out often, removing items that are the wrong size. Another good tip is to organize items by usage or season, with all of the snow clothes on one end and light jackets on the other. This makes it easiest to find something appropriate for the weather.

Bring the Outdoors Inside http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/bring-the-outdoors-inside/ http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/bring-the-outdoors-inside/#comments Thu, 07 Aug 2014 02:55:08 +0000 http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/?p=2850 You can bring the outdoors inside, even if you have a small space, by bringing in fresh air and greenery with houseplants. The fresher air and greener atmosphere they contribute to your space will more than make up for the minimal amount of care you need to give them.

During the summer months, when the weather is nice, open your windows and air out your rooms. Install window screens if you don’t have them, to keep bugs out and fresh air. Don’t let the fine weather of the warmer months pass you by.

The fresh air and greenery will contribute to your interior design positively on a subconscious level, while making your home more enjoyable to be in.

The Three Essentials Of Real Wood Flooring http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/three-essentials-of-real-wood-flooring/ http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/three-essentials-of-real-wood-flooring/#comments Thu, 31 Jul 2014 00:39:11 +0000 http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/?p=2824 Of the many flooring materials available nowadays for your interior project, real wood is the one that demands the most attention should you decide to venture in this direction. Over the years, real wood floorboard technology has transformed to offer a greater choice. In this guide we aim to look at your options and considerations.

Floorboard Technology

The flooring industry offers two types of suitable boards, one made from complete wood and an alternative that may look 100% identical, but one that is actually made from real wood and manufactured materials together. Let’s make sense of the two options.

Solid Wood Floorboard – These are the traditional wood floors that most people associate with real wood flooring. Each floorboard is made from one piece of hardwood timber such as Oak, Walnut etc. The solid type is fitting most areas of your residential or commercial interior, but for wet, humid or very warm areas. In these conditions natural wood will expand (from heat) or contract (from cold) causing the floorboard to misshape.

Engineered Wood Floorboard – These are also real wood flooring, though many people are unaware of their availability. Each floorboard is made from a top layer of solid hardwood (the same hardwood as in the previous type), but this time, the remaining core is made from MDF, Ply and even softwood. The result is a type of floorboard that can be fitted in any area of the interior, even on top of under floor heating and even in wet areas such as the bathroom or kitchen. However, what you gain in flexibility you give back in durability.

Durability of engineered wood flooring is around 25 years compared with around 100 years in the case of solid wood.

Floorboard Color

Most people are under the misguided impression thathardwood floorboards are only available natural shades. Perhaps one of the main reasons to work with an interior designer is their knowledge of recent trends, which in the world of real wood flooring includes alternative floorboard colors. The latest fashion is white, dark and grey real wood flooring.

White Wood Floorboards – Using coloring techniques such as white-washing, the floorboards are altered to display white shades, but not completely white, so the natural properties of wood in terms of knots, sapwood and grain markings are still visible. The white floorboards are handy in areas that feature limited natural light, or when you wish to make an area appear bigger than it realty is.

Dark Wood Floorboards – Using intrusive techniques such as thermo treating, the floorboards are changes to display a wide palette of dark shades, from light dark to solid black. The dark floorboards are famous for quickly showing any sign of dirt or dust, so think carefully where you fit them. The benefit of dark floorboards becomes apparent when you fit them on the backdrop of white fixings.

Grey Wood Floorboards – Grey is the last in the range of untraditional colors. It is often used in interiors that feature chunky wood furniture of the traditional brown color. Unlike other colors, grey won’t clash and both the floor and the furniture will continue to become the focal point in the room.

Floorboard Texture

There are two features that contribute to the texture of the floorboard. One is the grade while the other is the finish.

Grade – You may have come across floorboards with plenty of natural features such as sapwood, knots and heavy grain markings, while in other examples, these features are more restrained. The density of these features is measured based on grade.

Prime and Select Grades – Also known as AB and ABC grades, these are the two luxurious high-end grades in which the floorboards present a more uniform look.

Natural and Rustic Grades – Also known as ABCD and CD grades, these are the two basic grades in which sapwood, knots and color variations are plentiful.

Finish–The finish is a chemical layer that is placed on the exposed wood to improve its durability. Common examples are made from oil or strong lacquer. Oil finish will often give the floorboard a matt look, while the lacquer (depending on the number of coats) will give a glossy look. Both are suitable in most areas, however the lacquer coating will make the floorboard watertight so should be particularly used in wet areas such as the bathroom.

The Importance of Planning http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/the-importance-of-planning/ http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/the-importance-of-planning/#comments Wed, 23 Jul 2014 21:33:42 +0000 http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/?p=2646 When you make the decision to redecorate, planning should be the first thing on your mind, and it can be done as simply as with a piece of graph paper and a pencil, or as modern as with home planning software programs.

With these devices, you can draw out the furniture you already have to scale and move it around to see how it will look, before you start to put your muscle behind it.

This planning can prevent mishaps, like trying to move a couch into a room that is too narrow or putting so many chairs in a corner that there is no room to move around.

Before you start furniture moving, pick up a pencil.

Be Bold With Color http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/be-bold-with-color/ http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/be-bold-with-color/#comments Wed, 16 Jul 2014 22:15:51 +0000 http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/?p=2628 When decorating,

don’t be afraid of color.

A single, bright accent wall in a white room or a bright red vase on top of a pale vanity can make a statement in a room. Be sure that you always use bright colors in places that you want people to immediately notice.

If you have an accent wall, keep your best photographs on it or have the wall be the same as the focal point of the room, like a fireplace.

Don’t be afraid to experiment with color.

Especially bold, bright hues like red, green or bright blue. These colors can liven up any area of a room where they are used as accents.

Accessories to Enhance, Not Overwhelm http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/accessories-to-enhance-not-overwhelm/ http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/accessories-to-enhance-not-overwhelm/#comments Wed, 09 Jul 2014 23:11:11 +0000 http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/?p=1311 Have you ever noticed a well-placed lamp or vase? It can make a room look finished and as though it was professionally decorated. By adding these touches to your room, there can be a color splash, culture, or a personal touch that you really love. You should never feel obligated to fill a shelf, a wall, or a table.

Just put out the pieces you really enjoy and relish in the idea that you can change them daily, weekly, or monthly. No accessory is a permanent fixture and the good thing about these pieces is many times you can find them at consignment stores and estate sales.

If you are looking to enhance a room,

choose pieces that accentuate the room,

not overwhelm it.

Lighting for Every Room http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/lighting-for-every-room/ http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/lighting-for-every-room/#comments Wed, 02 Jul 2014 18:35:30 +0000 http://moonlightinteriorsdc.com/?p=1313 Each room in your home

can have a different feel

by simply changing the lighting.

Ambience is what makes a room feel cozy, clean, or bright. When you decide to change the light in a room, consider the feel you want for the room. For example, a living room should not have bright, fluorescent lights but have lower wattage lamps to create a warm feel.

A bedroom can have recessed lights that create a romantic feel and a dining room can have a dimmer switch to create a peaceful atmosphere.

Lights will change the mood and feel of any room. All it takes to change a room can be purchasing a simple light bulb which is as easy as visiting your local hardware store.
